What do purchasing managers need to know about the global economy, feedstocks and key chemical chains? Find out at the Chemical Purchasing Summit sponsored by ICIS Chemical Business and Purchasing magazines. The conference at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston on Sept. 17-18 will feature two days of market intelligence, sourcing best practices, and business networking opportunities designed specifically for chemicals procurement professionals.
Key topics at the second annual Chemical Purchasing Summit will include an update on the North American manufacturing rebound, a look at where energy and raw materials supply and pricing are headed, forecasts on the return of robust growth in petrochemicals use and a look-see at production capacity in 2010. Also, there will be special presentations on how to emerge as a buying champion in tumultuous times.
There also will be special presentations by Mark Ackiewicz of the Department of Energy and Michael Kratochwill of Nexant on what's happening with clean-coal technologies. This know-how soon will be producing synthetic natural gas (syngas), coal-based oil and chemical olefins feedstock from a coal-to-liquid process and byproducts used for manufacturing chemicals. Ackiewicz is the DOE's program manager for hydrogen and clean coal fuels; Kratochwill is Nexant's vice president of finance and strategy practice.
