iSuppli says sales in the fourth quarter will surpass year-ago period

    Jim Carbone -- Purchasing, 10/28/2009 3:44:35 PM

Semiconductor revenue will increase 10.6% in the fourth quarter, indicating the industry downturn is over, according to researcher iSuppli

The increase in the fourth quarter will be the first quarter in 2009 that revenue increased compared to the same period in 2008.  However, the increase in the fourth quarter will have little impact on overall semiconductor sales for the year. Sales will decline 16.5% compared to 2008.

Dale Ford, senior vice president, market intelligence, for iSuppli, says manufacturers have been reporting positive book-to-bill ratios since the second quarter. Positive book-to- bill ratios are indicators of future revenue growth. At the same time, semiconductor companies reduced their inventory levels, which helped to stabilize prices.

Sequential quarterly grow will continue in 2009.
