Univar, the top chemical distributor on Purchasing's Top 100 list, recently named John Zillmer as its new president and chief executive officer, replacing Gary Pruitt, non-executive chairman of the board, who announced his plans to retire as chief executive officer last April. Zillmer joins Univar after serving as chairman and CEO of Allied Waste Industries from 2005 to 2008.
Chemical distributor Brenntag last month acquired its former joint venture partner East-Chem, which expands Brenntag's presence in the industrial chemicals business in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada markets. Michael Staley, president of Brenntag Canada said in a statement that the deal fulfills "a long-standing need to have a Brenntag facility in Newfoundland, to better serve the industrial chemical and offshore oil and gas industries."
The National Association of Chemical Distributors has named Wilson Industrial Sales in Brook, Ind. as the recipient of the NACD 2009 Responsible Distribution Process Excellence Award for demonstrating outstanding performance in its Responsible Distribution Process program. NACD officials said the award highlights Wilson's commitment to the environment and recycling of products, involvement in the local community and the education of its employees. Other finalists for the award included Industrials Chemicals, International Distribution Corp., J. Tech Sales, Mutchler and Pharmaceutical Ingredients.
Quadra recently announced it has been awarded exclusive distribution rights in Canada for Ashland Performance Materials' line of polyvinyl acetate homopolymer and copolymer emulsions, acrylic and vinyl acrylic copolymer emulsions, wood glue emulsions and wet adhesion monomer technologies.
Food ingredients distributor Premium Ingredients has named Pat Mernaugh as its new director of purchasing for the U.S. operation in Carol Stream, Ill. In his new role, Mernaugh will oversee a team of product managers and be responsible for international sourcing as well as new product development. He joins Premium Ingredients International with over 17 years at Univar where he served in various roles, including most recently international sourcing.
