  • Sales of power transmission products continue to climb

Demand for bearings and gears is up for second consecutive month

    Susan Avery -- Purchasing, 11/16/2009 11:01:32 AM

Manufacturers' sales of power transmission products rose 5.3% in September, the second consecutive month of improvement according to new data from the Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) in Chicago. In August, sales rose 10.7% from the previous month.

Orders for the month too are up, by 9.1%.

Another important indicator, confidence in the U.S. market (as measured on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being most optimistic), is holding at a current negative position of 4.7 for the third consecutive month.

Seven of nine product categories tracked by the PTDA posted gains in sales in September, with clutches and brakes (10.3%), gear products (9%) and unmounted bearings (6.3%) at the top of the list. Sales are down for variable speed drives (20.2%) and positioning systems and linear motion products (3.5%).
