Worldwide consumer electronics original equipment manufacturing (OEM) revenue will grow just 1.6% to $317.3 billion in 2010, after declining 6.7% in 2009, according to researcher iSuppli. The 6.7% decline to $312.3 billion in 2009 was the first decline in consumer electronics revenue since 2001.Jordan Selburn, principal analyst with iSuppli, says one major bright spot for consumer electronics in 2009 was the LCD-TV segment, which grew 4.2% because of incentives in China and the increasing sales of LED-backlit sets. The LCD-TV market will grow as the global economy stabilizes and declining prices for televisions prompts consumers to buy.
Global LCD-TV OEM revenue in 2010 will rise to $75.5 billion, up 5% from $71.95 billion in 2009, the largest dollar increase of any consumer electronics segment for the year.
The next biggest growth area in terms of dollars will be digital set-top boxes, which will see OEM revenue rise to 11.6% to $18.2 billion in 2010.
Global OEM revenue from white goods, including washing machines, ovens and refrigerators is expected to rise 2.1% to $76.99 billion in 2010.
