Anderson retires

Ernest L. Anderson Jr., developer of the concept of "systems contracting," has announced his retirement as president of Anderson Associates Inc. of Orlando, Fla., and as contributing editor of Purchasing Magazine.Anderson developed the concept of systems contracting in August, 1957, during his tenure as director of purchasing at Brown & Sharpe Co., Providence, R.I. In January 1961 Anderson was named corporate director of purchases of the Carborundum Co., Niagara Falls, N.Y., and in January of 1962, he applied for and received a copyright for "Systems Contracting." He also applied for and received a copyright for a popular concept known as "Speed Order System," which he also developed while at Brown & Sharpe.
Other popular concepts and programs that have resulted from Anderson's creative approach to purchasing management and systems include: the "Controlled Order Plan" (1968), "Purchasing as a Sales Laboratory" (1962), "the A-B-C's of Decision Making" (1968), and the "L.O.I. Release System."
Over the years Anderson has lectured to professional management organizations and authored many articles on the application of systems thinking to purchasing management concepts for Purchasing Magazine. Additionally, Anderson taught purchasing and inventory control on a graduate school basis and functioned as a highly-regarded procurement consultant for many of the nation's top industrial corporations.
