Chip makers move to .25 micron technology

National Semiconductor and AMD report they are both making Pentium II equivalent process on .25 micron-process technology.

National says it is producing Cyrix 6x86MX processors on .25 micron-process technology at its pilot manufacturing facility in Santa Clara, Calif. The chip will go into volume production by the summer at National's South Portland, Maine, plant. It is already being produced by IBM Microelectronics.

AMD says it is making its K6 processor on .25 micron-process technology. The 266-megahertz version is being used in IBM Aptiva E46 model and the 233-megahertz device is used in the Compaq Presario 1621 notebook.
