State AGs prep for power scams

By Staff -- Purchasing, 2/12/1998

As the states continue to push power-industry restructuring, States Attorney's General are gearing up to foil an expected wave of scam artists and snakeoil salesmen. "We want to make sure that the potential benefits of utility deregulation for consumers and businesses are not undermined by the scam artists who may try to exploit this new opportunity to sink their fangs into the unwary," says Wisconsin Attorney General James Doyle, who is also president of the National Association of Attorneys General (naag).

Doyle announced that naag will create a special enforcement task force to monitor industry practices in the deregulated electricity industry. The naag "Consumer Alert" will be available on the Web through www.naag.org.
