Leasing of notebook and desktop PC systems is expected to rise this year, according to a new study by International Data Corp., Framingham, Mass. Last year, corporate PC buyers leased about 10% of their notebooks and desktop systems, a number that IDC says could jump to 15% to 20% in 1998. Leasing, the study finds, eliminates expense of scrubbing a hard drive and removing software and sensitive data before donating or passing the units on to other users--and administrative overhead of organizing such donations.
