Connectors see healthy growth

The worldwide connector market grew 7.6% to $23.4 billion, according to connector industry researcher Bishop & Associates.The 1997 growth rate outpaced the 1996 rate when the industry grew 5.2%. "Nineteen-ninety-seven achieved the third largest year-to-year growth in the past nine years," says Ron Bishop.
The North American connector market grew 8.9% to $8.9 billion.
Computers and peripherals continue to be the biggest consumers of connectors. Over $6.1 billions of connectors were shipped to the computer industry in 1997, up 11.9% from 1996.
Bishop forecasts that the connector industry will increase from $24.4 billion in 1997 to over $32 billion by the year 2002.
