Resistor tags rise
By James Carbone -- Purchasing, 3/26/1998
One year ago, U.S. resistor manufacturers were enjoying falling direct costs. But those days are over. Costs for labor and materials are on the rise. Costs rose almost half a percentage point in the 12 months ending in January, because of a 3.5% hike in direct labor and a 2.4% increase in the industry's average inbound freight bill. Meanwhile, resistor prices are slowly rising, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Outlook: Look for tags to increase by about 1.39%, as manufacturing costs increase by about 1%. Prices increased 1.23% in the 12 months that ended January 1998.
