Boise aligns with Wallace for integrated supply

By Staff -- Purchasing, 3/26/1998

Boise Cascade Office Products and Wallace Computer Services have formed an alliance to provide integrated supply agreements to corporate buyers.

The two companies say they've joined forces in this effort to help buyers reduce costs of purchasing office supplies and printing services. With Boise-Wallace Single Source, as the new service is called, corporate purchasing managers can expect to cut these administrative costs by about 15% to 20%.

Under the agreement, Boise and Wallace share assets in the alliance. Among them, software developed specifically for implementing integrated supply agreements.

"Both companies have committed to maintaining the infrastructure and systems for a long-term relationship," says Pete Danis, president and chief executive, Boise Cascade Office Products. "Together, we have the resources and experience to offer this capability on a national scale, saving our customers time and money."

With headquarters in Itasca, Ill., Boise is an office products company specializing in sales and direct marketing of office supplies, computer hardware and software, and furniture. Boise has operations in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the U.S.

Wallace provides custom printed supplies management services, and is one of the nation's largest manufacturers and distributors of information management products. Based in Lisle, Ill., Wallace has manufacturing, distribution, and sales locations throughout the U.S.

Combined, Wallace and Boise have nearly one million SKUs (Stock Keeping Units) of stock office products and custom items on the shelf for same-day shipment. Boise's line of office products, computers, paper, and furniture supplies will be available through the alliance as well as Wallace's custom-printed products, which include forms, labels, direct response materials, and printing. Boise operates as the point of entry for all phone, fax, mail, EDI, and Internet orders, sending orders for Wallace products via EDI.

Boise's Danis sees the alliance as a continuation of his company's tradition of creating new industry standards. "Boise pioneered next-day delivery and desktop delivery and is the first to offer its customers across the nation a truly integrated supply service." The two companies are expected to introduce additional services in the months ahead, including more detailed usage reports.

The national roll out of Boise-Wallace Single Source follows a successful test-pilot program with several key customers. Contact either Boise Cascade at 888-boise-88 or Wallace at (630) 588-6430.
