Room for a boom in consumer spending?

Room for a boom in consumer spending? Consider this: The Mortgage Bankers Association thinks the current round of mortgage refinancing will free up more than $6-billion worth of discretionary cash. Wages are rising. Consumer goods imports from Asia (read, electronic toys) are expected to get cheaper. Consumer confidence soared ten points in February, hitting yet another thirty-year high (this despite Yeltsin's World War III warnings!). Latest from the Conference Board finds 26% of consumers anticipating a rise in income over the next six months.
