Don't hold your breath waiting for those much touted low-cost "network computers." Shipments won't add up to much till the end of the decade says Dataquest. Last year about 144,000 of the units shipped, and this year about 482,000 NCs will ship. Sounds impressive but is really small potatoes compared to the 90-million PCs that will ship this year. NCs have very little stand-alone functionality and must be connected to servers to perform computational tasks.
