Board costs rise
By James Carbone -- Purchasing, 4/23/1998
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that average prices for printed circuit boards produced in the U.S. fell 1.2% in the 12 months ending in February 1998. That's a turnaround from the 0.4% price hikes that the industry managed to push through in the previous 12-month period. The price declines are coming at a time when manufacturing costs are rising. Boston-based Thinking Cap Solutions says the board industry's direct manufacturing costs rose 1.6% in the 12 months ending in February, due in large part to higher labor costs. TCS estimates that direct labor costs rose 3.9%
