Occidental Petroleum's petrochemicals operations will join with Equistar Chemicals, a joint venture made up of the petrochemical businesses of Lyondell and Millennium Chemicals, effectively creating one of the world's largest makers of ethylene and derivatives. Equistar will control 18 plants with a total ethylene capacity of 11.4 billion lb/yr.
