Hitachi restructures operations

By James Carbone -- Purchasing, 5/21/1998

Weak memory prices are forcing Hitachi Semiconductor to restructure its semiconductor operations in the U.S. The company is shifting its manufacturing from dram to more profitable logic chips at its plant in Texas. By the end of 1998, it expects to boost production of non-memory chips such as microprocessors and microcontrollers to 40% of its production from its current 18% level.
