Big Blue, Intel join forces

By James Carbone -- Purchasing, 5/21/1998

IBM and Intel will team up to develop network computer products. The two companies will work to optimize Java OS for Business, the operating system that IBM is co-developing with Sun Microsystems. Network computers are low-cost machines that operate on the processing power of large centralized servers. IBM currently uses its own PowerPC processors in the devices, but future NCs will run on both Intel MPUs and PowerPC processors.
