PURCHASING NOTES

By Staff -- Purchasing, 5/21/1998

U.S. telecom giants have developed an ISO-9000-based quality system, much as the U.S. auto industry has done. The document, called TS 9000, includes ISO 9000 in its entirety, along with industry specific requirements, say members of the Quality Excellence for Suppliers of Telecommunications Leadership Forum. Requirements include performance and cost-based metrics that measure reliability and quality performance. Founding forum members include: Pacific Bell, Southwestern Bell, Bell Atlantic, and Bell South. For info, contact Jim McDonnell, director of strategic procurement services, Pacific Bell, at (510) 823-0200.
