Look for the worldwide semiconductor market to grow 8.1% to $159 billion in '98. That's about half the average growth rate over the past 20 years. Declining prices for drams is a major reason for slow growth. Prices will fall around 40% for drams. Factors creating downward pressure on semiconductor prices: Slowing of regional economies, slow growth in computers, excess capacity.
