No doubt about it! Asia's economic woes and a slowdown in the computer industry is impacting the semiconductor equipment manufacturers

By Staff -- Purchasing, 5/21/1998

No doubt about it! Asia's economic woes and a slowdown in the computer industry is impacting the semiconductor equipment manufacturers. Evidence: New orders for chip product equipment have been declining since January. The book-to-bill ratio for equipment fell to .80 in March, according to Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International. That means only $80 in new orders were received for each $100 worth of products shipped in March. The last time the ratio stood at 1.0 was last November 28.
