Expect U.S. demand for engineered plastics to grow at a 5%/year rate through 2001, says Cleveland-based Freedonia Group. Nylon and polycarbonate are the growth leaders, followed closely by such high-performance resins as polyphenylene sulfide and polyimides. Demand will be especially high in motor vehicle and transportation equipment areas. In two other market studies the research firm projects that--* Growth for industrial fasteners will increase at a rate below 2% through 2001. Higher sales in aerospace and electronic equipment areas won't be enough to offset declines in demand from the auto industry.* Demand for automatic valves compatible with computer-based process control valves will rise 8%/year through 2001.
