CAPACITY CHANGES

Amoco Chemical is adding capacity at Geel, Belgium. The company has added 500,000 tonnes/yr of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) capacity. The company also debottlenecked its gas phase impact copolymer polypropylene plant--taking capacity up to 280,000 tonnes/yr. Amoco has begun construction of a 420,000 tonne/yr paraxylene plant at Geel. At Feluy, Belgium, the company is doubling capacity of its linear alpha-olefins unit. Capacity will rise to 300,000 tonnes/yr by mid-1999.
