At the same time, the market for workstations is sending mixed signals. Worldwide revenue dropped 3.2% in the second quarter of 1998, while worldwide shipments grew 48.4% over the second quarter of last year, according to latest figures available from Dataquest, a unit of GartnerGroup, Inc. Worldwide workstation revenue surpassed $3.1 billion in the second quarter, as shipments reached 355,920 units. Despite a revenue decline of more than 20%, Sun Microsystems is still the number-one supplier.
