New bearing stops machine breakdowns

By Staff -- Purchasing, 11/19/1998

A cable manufacturer in Lawrenceburg, Kansas, was only getting one day's service from a standard bearing used in a small pulley application. An engineer from NTN Bearing Corp. of America suggested that an all-stainless-steel and polylube bearing be used in place of the standard bearing. Reason: The bearing is subjected to very cold water, and the suggested replacement bearing is highly corrosion resistant.

Result: Machines worked without a shutdown for more than eight weeks and have worked thus far for 18 months. Replacing the four standard bearing on each of 13 machines took only one hour of maintenance time per machine, saving the customer thousands of dollars per machine every week.
