Purchasing Notes

By Staff -- Purchasing, 12/10/1998

To better combat direct marketers of PCs--Dell and Gateway--Inacom Corp. is acquiring Vanstar Corp., creating the largest distributor of IBM, Compaq, and Hewlett-Packard computers. Insiders say the merger of Omaha-based Inacom, known for its product management operations, and Vanstar, a computer consulting services company in Atlanta, creates a powerful single source of computers for corporate buyers around the world. Because of its size ($7 billion in annual revenue), the new entity may command better prices and more favorable terms from computer OEMs.
