Capacity Changes
By Staff -- Purchasing, 2/11/1999
Air Products will build and operate a new synthetic gas (a hydrogen/carbon monoxide mixture) separation and purification unit near Exxon's gasification facility being built at Baytown, Texas. The new facilities will be connected by pipelines to Air Products' existing Gulf Coast industrial gas pipeline systems. In addition, the company will build and operate a worldscale air separation plant at the site to supply Exxon with oxygen requirements under a long-term agreement. The plant will produce 1,800 tons/day of additional gas and liquid products above Exxon's requirements, and that excess will be sold to local markets. As well, Air Products will substantially increase its installed capacity for carbon monoxide/synthesis gas in the region. The overall project will be brought on in stages and should be finished in early 2000.
