Dell Computer has made available new options--including capability for up to 256MB of RAM, an LS-120 device for removable mass storage, and up to 12.8GB of hard-disk-drive space--to increase performance and functionality of its Latitude corporate notebook computers. Dell also plans to offer DVD-ROM drives on the notebooks later this quarter."Dell understands that corporate customers demand reliable and durable products, relevant technology, and managed transitions," says Doug MacGregor, vice president, Notebook Product Group. "This is what the Latitude line delivers."
Using 128MB small outline dual inline memory module (sodimm) chips, Dell Latitude CPi customers now can configure systems with up to 256MB of RAM, doubling the previous RAM capacity of the CPi. This is important to corporate customers concerned about implementing newer operating systems and updated applications.
Also available: Imation LS-120 SuperDisk as a modular bay option on Latitude CP and CPi models. It provides 120MB of removable mass storage--equal to 83 regular flopping disks--in a 3.5-in. disk drive form factor. This helps free up hard-drive space and makes it easier to transport large files between compatibly equipped PCs.
A third option for Latitude CP and CPi models is a second 6.4GB disk drive. Combined with an internal 6.4GB hard drive, Latitude provides users with up to 12.8MB of internal storage. This is a bootable device, allowing numerous options for data security and back-up or for running multiple operating systems.
