PURCHASING NOTES

By Staff -- Purchasing, 3/25/1999

Hewlett-Packard has slashed prices by up to 20% across its PC lines. An HP Vectra VE corporate PC with a Celeron 333MHz processor, a 4.3GB hard-disk drive, 32MB sdram, and 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 TX LAN card now is expected to sell for an estimated street price of as low as $774, a reduction of 20%.

Color laser printers have broken the $2,000 barrier. Prices have dropped to $1,299 for the network-ready QMS magicolor 2 DeskLaser, a Windows printer that uses the processing power of a host computer and to $1,995 for Tektronix's new full-featured and network-ready Phase 740. For more info on new printer models, see story on p. 76.
