Board tags fall

By Staff -- Purchasing, 3/25/1999

Average product prices in the U.S printed circuit board industry fell 1.9% in the 12-month period ending January 1999. Meanwhile, the industry's direct manufacturing costs fell too, down 0.97% over the same 12 months, according to Thinking Cap Solutions. Falling materials costs for electronic components, copper plate and sheet, and fabricated plastics products are helping to boost PCB makers' beleaguered bottom line. Cuts in heat and power costs as well as tight controls on MRO costs are also helping. Direct labor costs, however, rose 4.2% in the 12 months ending January 1999.
