Watch big players battle it out for dominance in the workstation market. "The third quarter of 1998 clearly shows the workstation industry is in the midst of transition, with overall market leadership contested between Sun Microsystems, which is ahead in revenue terms, and Hewlett-Packard, which leads the pack in unit shipments," says Peter ffoulkes of Dataquest. For the quarter, worldwide shipments are up 57%, while revenues are down 4% over a similar period a year earlier.
