Purchasing kicks off tenth Welcome Booklet contest!
By Staff -- Purchasing, 4/22/1999
Is your procurement department proud of its new welcome booklet? If yes, then it's time to enter Purchasing's tenth annual Welcome Booklet contest. To win, your booklet must effectively explain the purchasing organization's goals, tell suppliers what is expected of them, and show suppliers how to solicit your business. We judge winners by how well they score in these categories:
* Design. Is it attractive without being fussy? Will it get the sales rep's attention? Can it be updated easily?
* Authority. Is there a clear statement of purchasing's authority over procurement?
* Business. What products or services does your company sell?
* Buyers. Who are the buyers and what commodities or other items are they responsible for purchasing? How can they be contacted?
* Access. When are interviews held? Does a supplier need an appointment? If so, how can one be arranged?
* Criteria. How do you select suppliers? What information do you want a sales rep to present about the supplier company and its products?
* Ideas. Do you solicit them? What message do you give to sales reps about the company's desire to obtain new ideas? How does the sales rep know that good ideas will reach the right people?
* What it takes. How does one become a preferred supplier?
* Ethics. What is the company policy on gifts and entertainment? How does the company treat confidentiality of information presented by the sales representative?
* Special programs. Explanation of supplier evaluation, certification, and involvement programs. How do these programs affect the supplier?
