Eurofer filesplate trade complaint

Eurofer, the European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries, has filed a dumping complaint with the European Commission against imports of carbon steel plate from China, India, Macedonia, and Rumania. Eurofer contends that plate from these nations increased by 64% last year, boosting the import share of the European plate market to 18% from 11% in 1997. The trade group says this kind of rise in market share was possible only because of import prices which undercut European prices by up to 41%. "This dumping has caused serious injury to European producers," Eurofer contends.
