Graybar Electric continues the rollout of its logistics network with the opening

Graybar Electric continues the rollout of its logistics network with the opening of a 204,000 sq. ft. distribution center in Youngstown, Ohio, the eighth of 16 such facilities planned nationwide. Serving as a replenishment and shipping facility for Graybar branches in the region, the regional zone warehouse maintains a multi-million dollar inventory of electrical, communications, and data supplies and equipment. It enables the company to enhance its customer service by consolidating orders for next-day delivery and by stocking slow-moving and hard-to-find items-those not required every day by its customers.

The American Supply and Machinery Manufacturers Association honored three distributors with Excellence in Distribution awards on Industrial Distribution Day held recently during National Manufacturing Week. Winners are: Purchased Parts Group, Memphis, Tenn. (more than $50 million in revenue); Tower Fasteners, Holtsville, N.Y. (sales between $10 million and $50 million); and Elisha Penniman, West Hartford, Conn. (sales of less than $10 million). Nominated by end users, companies are evaluated on such criteria as sales per employee, sales growth benefits offered, and number of value-added services provided.

The University of Miami has selected Strategic Distribution Inc. to manage its MRO supply chain.

The University of Miami has selected Strategic Distribution Inc. to manage its MRO supply chain. SDI has established In-Plant Store programs at the university's main campus in Coral Gables and medical center in downtown Miami. The university is one of a few that outsources management and procurement of its MRO requirements, adapting a practice used by manufacturing and utility companies for 20 years. At the same time, this agreement is the first of SDI's in a new non-industrial market segment.
