Together Remedy apps manage life cycle costs

By Susan Avery -- Purchasing, 5/18/2000

Remedy Corp. has integrated its e-procurement software, Purchasing@Work, with its Asset Management software. Together, the applications help companies to control up-front procurement processing costs and monitor and control costs incurred throughout asset life cycle processes such as deployment, installation, support, service, reallocation and retirement.

With the software, companies have capability to automate the purchasing and approval process, control product selection with online catalogs, refocus efforts from transactional buying to strategic purchasing, and manage assets and supplier agreements throughout their life cycle.

"Adopting e-procurement to automate MRO purchasing processes provides an unprecedented savings opportunity," says Gary Oliver, vice president and general manager of the ebusiness infrastructure solutions division at Remedy, Mountain View, Calif. "By integrating e-procurement and asset management, organizations gain further savings and get complete asset life cycle management."

Remedy Purchasing@Work 2.5 is an Internet-based e-procurement system that automates and streamlines the purchasing process for non-production goods and services. The software includes an online catalog of pre-approved suppliers, providing real-time product price comparison and inventory availability. Purchasing@Work automates approval, escalation and notification rules that enforce purchasing policies, help reduce "maverick" purchasing, and provide status checking at each stage of the process-from request to approval to order placement to receipt.

Purchasing@Work is built on Remedy's Action Request System, an adaptable foundation for automating critical business processes.

Because of the company's open architecture approach, Purchasing@Work is available for both unix and Microsoft Windows NT. It integrates seamlessly with back-office enterprise resource planning (ERP) financial applications, as well as Web browsers and database products.
