Texas Instruments has begun shipping samples of its Bluetooth chipset designed to wirelessly connect various types of electronic equipment such as computers printers and mobile phones.
The high-performance chipset includes the industry's first 0.18 micron ROM-based Bluetooth baseband with a fully integrated Bluetooth software stack and TI's high-sensitivity BiCMOS radio frequency (RF) transceiver. TI says the chipset provides a highly integrated, high-performance solution for Bluetooth applications. The chip will be produced in volume in the fourth quarter, according to TI.
Market researcher Cahners In-Stat predicts that sales of integrated circuit solutions for Bluetooth systems will exceed $4.9 billion by 2005. The largest areas of growth are forecast to be wireless connections for phones and computers.
