Connector tags rise

By Staff -- Purchasing, 3/22/2001

Average prices for U.S.-made electronic connectors rose 0.46% in the 12 months ending January 2001 after a tenth of a percent price decline in the previous 12 months. The problem for buyers of connectors, as with other components, is that manufacturing costs are rising, putting margin pressure on producers. In the connectors (SIC 3678) industry, direct manufacturing costs to make connectors increased 3.3% in the 12 months ending January 2001. The cost of imported materials jumped 5.5% over the same period. And the average cost for heat and power also turned up at an 8% rate.
