Price Changes

Eastman Chemical Co. , Kingsport, Tenn., raised its list and off-list prices of Eastman EEP solvent (ethyl 3-ethyoxypropionate) by 4¢/lb, effective Jan. 1, 2001, for customers located in all world regions. The company cites increased raw material costs for the price hike.

Effective in February, Solvay Interox Inc. , Houston, Texas, is raising the price of all grades of hydrogen peroxide (excepting electronic grades) by 4¢/lb in the U.S. and by CAN$130/metric ton in Canada (100% basis). "Increasing energy and raw material costs necessitate the increase," says a company source.

JLM Marketing Inc. , a chemical distributor based in Tampa, Fla., announced that it is raising prices for several products, effective in January. They include: methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) by 4¢/lb; methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) by 3¢/lb; isopropyl alcohol by 3¢/lb; normal butanol by 3¢/lb; normal propyl acetate by 3¢/lb; propylene glycol by 3¢/lb; acetone by 3¢/lb; and alpha methyl styrene by 3¢/lb.

General Chemical Corp. , Parsippany, N.J., is increasing its sulfuric acid prices (93% grades) by $5/ton and calcium chloride prices by $10/ton, effective immediately and as contracts permit.

Vulcan Chemical , Birmingham, Ala., announced a price increase for all grades of liquid caustic soda by $50/ton (76% sodium oxide basis), effective in January. Also, the company says that it is continuing its order control program until further notice.

Air Products and Chemicals Inc. , Lehigh Valley, Pa., increased the price of its ortho-toluenediamine (OTD) by 8¢/lb on a global basis. OTD is used in polyurethane polyols, corrosion inhibitors, specialty antioxidants and dye intermediates, as well as in coatings, pigments and pharmaceuticals.

Air Products is also raising its North American prices of epoxy hardeners, reactive dilutents, modifiers, and specialty industrial coating resins by 5¢/lb. Products affected by the price hike include: Amicure, Ancamine, Ancamide, Ancarez, Anchor, Anquamine, Anquamide, Epodil, Imicure, Nourybond, Curezol, Hybridur and Adura trademarks.
