Resistor costs drop
By Staff -- Purchasing, 5/20/1999
Manufacturers of resistors in the U.S. are enjoying a period of deflating manufacturing costs. In the 12 months ending March 1999, direct manufacturing costs in the resistor industry fell 0.7%. A 3.3% decline in the cost of imported materials combined with a 3% drop in the cost of domestic materials drove the deflationary trend. Lower prices for bare copper wire, fabricated plastics, and, of course, other electronic components helped make the bill-of-materials burden easier to bear. Meanwhile, average producer prices for resistors rose 0.4% in the 12-month period ending March 1999. Higher prices for resistor networks with more than two leads led the price charge.
