Savin rounds out its line of digital output devices

By Staff -- Purchasing, 5/20/1999

Rounding out its digital line, Savin has introduced the 9955DP, a 55-ppm system that brings high-resolution digital imaging to the mid-high volume segment. Savin markets black-and-white and full-color digital imaging systems that connect to computer networks, digital multifunction products, plain-paper laser fax machines, analog copiers, and parts and supplies through a nationwide branch office and dealer network.

The 9955DP joins a line that already offers print speeds from 10 to 65 ppm, and that is ready to connect to some of the more common computer networks. With the addition of a print controller, the 9955DP and 9965DP become all-purpose output devices that support operating systems on both PC and Mac platforms. This gives users power to manipulate images, select paper types, and specify such finishing options as stapling, hole-punch, and collating right from their desktops computers.

As with other Savin digital systems, network connectivity can be achieved both through an integral network interface board for Ethernet LANs and external print servers for Token Ring. An RJ-45 connector allows for easy installation on LANs. There is also the option of true Adobe PostScript 3, for print applications used by graphic arts, advertising, and publishing firms.

A Document Server feature enables such functions as:

* Proof printing (send jobs from a PC, run a sample print, input corrections from the 9955's control panel).

* On-demand printing (stores up to 50 files, 1,000 pages).

* Secure printing (requires passwords for sensitive documents).

* File merger printing (combines different electronic files--even from different applications--and prints them as one set).

* Scan page printing (scans and stores different types of originals and prints them as one set).

The optional print controller provides for PCLC6 printer control language. The high-resolution digital output produces image quality of up to 600 dots per inch in print mode. It comes standard with 8MB of memory, expandable up to 72MB. Print drivers include support for Win 3.1x, Win95, Win NT 4.0, and Macintosh. The 9955DP comes standard with 12MB or RAM and a 1.7GB hard drive for spooling.

Copier functionality includes high-resolution digital imaging, producing output of up to 400 dpi in copy mode. When copying, originals are scanned once, so there's less paper handling, enhancing speed and reliability. In copy mode, the 9955DP's digital technology allows users to scan in jobs ahead, even when the system is outputting a job.

The 9955DP's advanced finishing features include a standard 100-sheet ardf, a standard 3,100-sheet paper supply, and an optional 3,500-sheet large capacity tray, which brings total paper capacity to 6,600 sheets. Editing features enable users to manipulate scanned images to get them "picture perfect," and to turn documents into booklets and magazines.
