PRICE INCREASES

Effective December 16, General Chemical Industrial Products, Parsippany, N.J., raised its off-schedule prices for flake calcium chloride by $10/ton. The company also announced price increases for all forms and concentrations of liquid calcium chloride by $7.25/ton (4¢/gal).

Effective January 1, The Dow Chemical Co., Midland, Mich., announced off-list price increases for diethylene glycol and triethylene glycol (DEG and TEG) for its North American customers. According to Dow, 3¢/lb increases were slated for DEG Regular, DEG Resin Grade and all grades of TEG.

Also effective January 1, Dow raised its off-list prices in North America for mono- and di-propylene glycol products by 4¢/lb, or as contracts permit.

Effective January 1, Eastman Chemical Co., Kingsport, Tenn., raised off-list prices on all forms of Eastman NPG glycol in North America by 10%. The company reports that prices have been reduced significantly over the past 18 months. .

Eastman is also increasing prices for its Tenox food-grade antioxidant solutions and Tenox food-grade BHA flake by 30¢/lb and $1/lb, respectively. In addition, the company is raising the price of Texanol ester alcohol by 3¢/lb. The increases became effective January 1.

Effective January 1, RUCO Polymers, a Sybron Chemicals Co. based in Hicksville, N.Y., increased prices for all RUCOFLEX polyester polyols by 3¢/lb, citing increased raw material costs.

Effective January 1, Huron Tech Corp., increased its price of sodium chlorate by $25/ton in the U.S. and CAN$30/tonne in Canada. The company cites sustained demand for sodium chlorate resulting in tighter supply and increased production costs.

Effective January 1, Union Carbide Corp., Danbury, Conn., announced a 3¢/lb increase for all grades of propionic acid, a raw material used in the manufacture of calcium, sodium and ammonium propionates and buffered solutions for food preservatives.

Effective January 1, Pilot Chemical Co., Red Bank, N.J., raised the price of its Aristonatet line of synthetic petroleum sulfonates used for emulsification and corrosion inhibition in industrial lubricant formulations. All commercial grades of Aristonate neutral products (L,L-LF, M, M-LF, H, H-LF, VH and MME-60) are to increase by 5¢/lb. Acid products will increase by 7¢/lb where applicable.

Effective January 1, Ashland Specialty Chemical Co., Dublin, Ohio raised prices for its various ultrapure wet-process chemicals by 3%-7% depending on product grades and materials used. In mid-December, Ashland raised the prices of its isosetr adhesive resins by 5% and its isogripr adhesive moisture-cured urethanes by 3%.
