Hewlett-Packard and Nashua Corp. form alliance to develop supplies
By Staff -- Purchasing, 2/10/2000
Hewlett-Packard and Nashua Corp. have formed a strategic alliance to develop supplies for other original equipment manufacturers' (OEM) copiers/printers, as well as products complementary to HP's eliptica line. Nashua manufactures HP's existing eliptica toner products, which were introduced last year for use in Xerox copier/printer models. Eliptica is based in Boise, Idaho.HP introduced its eliptica brand as part of its strategy to provide quality supplies to resellers and corporate buyers looking for alternatives. The alliance with Nashua leverages both parties' strengths in the office-supplies market to create additional eliptica products for customers outside of HP's installed base.
Eliptica products are not remanufactured or refurbished. They are designed to offer quality equivalent to that of the OEM supplies, but at a lower cost and greater convenience to customers. They are backed by HP's 100% satisfaction warranty and are available through resellers nationwide.
"HP has long been a brand customers know and trust," says Stewart Fisher, operations manager of the eliptica team for HP's imaging supplies division. "This alliance merges our quality engineering processes, printer industry knowledge, and technology with Nashua's proprietary technologies, toner experience, and manufacturing capability to expand the eliptica brand of supplies. Based on customer feedback, we intend to extend our line of printer and copier supplies with products for other OEM equipment, as well as products complementary to our existing line."
"Partnering with HP allows us to focus our investment in our strengths--developing and manufacturing copier and printer supplies," says Gerald Garbacz, CEO, Nashua. "Gaining access to HP's powerful distribution channel will provide a huge advantage for Nashua. We'll be able to use its distribution channel to enhance and accelerate the product-development process."
"Developing new toner and developer products for the eliptica brand complements our existing relationship," says Donna DiGiovine, general manager of Nashua's toner business products unit. "The strength of Nashua's product development and manufacturing capability, coupled with HP's engineering process and stringent quality standards, is underscored by a recent independent analysis by Buyer's Laboratory that shows eliptica toner product met or exceeded performance of comparable Xerox products for page yield and quality.
