By Staff -- Purchasing, 5/20/1999

While sales of notebook PCs to corporate buyers remain strong, demand for handheld computing devices is expected to grow, says Fran Firth, a senior analyst with Cahners In-Stat Group, Newton, Mass. In new research, Firth shows that 36% of companies now use and expect to increase using such devices as the PalmPilot from 3Com. What's more, another 19% plan to start using the device in the next 24 months. Shipments of notebook PCs will continue growing by 18%/yr through 2002, according to In-Stat.
