CM business rises 21.5%

The U.S. market for electronics contract manufacturing services increased 21.5% to $27.4 billion, according to the Association Connecting Electronics Industries.

The association says 66 contract manufacturers had combined sales of $11.3 billion, representing about 41% of the total U.S. electronics manufacturing services market. The computer and communications industries continue to be the biggest customers for contract manufacturers, accounting for 53.4% and 26.8% of total 1999 sales respectively.

The association predicts that the U.S. contract manufacturing market will grow more than 20% annually through 2003 when it will reach $59 billion.
