Connector tags rise
By Staff -- Purchasing, 2/10/2000
After holding steady or falling slightly throughout much of 1999, average product prices for electronic connectors rose 0.3% from November to December 1999. Prices for cylindrical connectors rose 1%, as did tags for subminiature rack and panel types. For the entire 12-month period ending December 1999, average connector prices fell 0.03%. Direct manufacturing costs in the U.S. connector industry, meanwhile, rose 0.5% in the 12 months of 1999 compared to a decline of 0.9% in the 12 months ending December 1998. The cost/price escalation mismatch probably will not persist. The electronic connectors (SIC 3678) industry likely will hike prices to keep up with increases in copper and fabricated plastic materials costs.
