Delphi Energy & Engine Management enters agreement

By Staff -- Purchasing, 6/3/1999

Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems has entered an agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy to research more fuel-efficient automotive engine technologies. The $3-million agreement will cover a 28-month period between now and Aug. 31, 2001.

The Delphi work will help support the U.S. auto industry and government's Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles. The partnership's goal is to develop affordable technology for up to 80 mpg production prototype vehicles by 2004.

Donald Runkle, president of the Michigan-based Delphi Energy, says the company will research and develop "an advanced, direct-injection, low-pressure fuel-delivery system."

Jean Botti, technical director for Delphi Energy's Customer Solution Center, says the goal of the research is to optimize fuel economy and exhaust emissions.
