New notebooks feature Intel Mobile Pentium III

Leading notebook PC manufacturers have introduced new products equipped with the new Intel Mobile Pentium III with SpeedStep technology. Among them:- Hewlett-Packard. HP OmniBook XE2, 4150 and 900 notebook PCs with the new chip sport power-saving capabilities, longer battery life and maximum notebook portability.
According to the company, the 4150 and 900 models feature dynamic dual-frequency and voltage switching that provide near desktop-grade computing performance when used as a desktop replacement. When used as a notebook, the PCs provide the benefit of extended battery life, with CPU power reduced 40% to 50% while maintaining 80% notebook performance.
HP also added to its common accessories line and docking systems for HP OmniBook PCs. The new 256MB SODIMM memory card provides up to 512MB of RAM for the new HP OmniBook 4150 notebook PC and up to 320MB of RAM for the OmniBook 900 notebook PC. The new 65W ultraslim AC adapter is lightweight, easy to pack, and suited for the traveling corporate user.
- Toshiba. The Computer Systems Group of Toshiba America Information Systems Portege 7200CT ultraportable incorporates a 600MHz Mobile Pentium III that powers down to 500MHz while running on the battery. The Tecra 8100 series offers configurations with 600 and 650MHz Mobile Pentium III processors that both power down to 500MHz while on battery power.
Through a unique Toshiba software utility, the Portege and Tecra also allow users to choose full-power and battery-saving options.
In addition to 600MHz SpeedStep processor technology, the Portege 7200CT offers 100MHz front side bus, 12 billion byte hard drive, and 64MB of PC100 memory (expandable to 192MB) for performance and more than three hours of battery life. It also offers a 13.3-in. TFT active-matrix display and 128-bit Trident CyberBlade e4-128 3D graphics controller with integrated 4MB of SDRAM and multiple display support. Optional DVD Network Dock II transform the Portege 7200CT into a high-performance desktop replacement.
The Tecra 8100 series measures 1.4 in. thin and is configurable from 5.4 lb. Complementing the SpeedStep processors, the Tecra 8100 offers 100MHz front side bus and high-spped PC100 memory, expandable to 256MB.
Delivering desktop equivalent multimedia capabilities, the Tecra 8100 offers brilliant 13.3-in. or 14.1-in. TFT displays, 6X DVD-ROMS, and the mobile S3 Savage/MX 3-D graphics accelerator with 8MB of external sgram video memory.
The series also has expansion capabilities to leverage the notebook's full potential. The NetDock port replicator, which offers built-in Ethernet networking, can operate alone or attached to the Expansion Station docking base for desktop replacement. In addition, an optional monitor stand may be integrated with the NetDock and Expansion Station to complete the desktop capabilities of the Tecra 8100 series.
