Nanya Ships PC 133 DRAM

By Staff -- Purchasing, 3/23/2000

Nanya Technology has begun shipping PC 133 64-Mb DRAM developed under a technology licensing and supply agreement with IBM.

Under the agreement, IBM provides Nanya with IBM's 64- and 256-Mb DRAM designs, as well as its 0.20- and 0.175-micron process technology. Nanya is allowed to sell chips made from the technology in the open market under its own brand. Nanya will also be introducing 128-Mb DRAM family based on its own internal design.

"The agreement between Nanya and IBM Microelectronics is a natural partnership," says Ken Hurley, president of Nanya North America and Europe. "The combination of Nanya's manufacturing strength and state-of-the-art technology from IBM now establishes Nanya as a world player in the DRAM industry."

Nanya has installed 0.20-micron technology that today is yielding them production of PC 133 64-Mb DRAM in 8x16x14 configurations. The company is shipping those parts to PC networking and server manufacturers.
