New Internet chip unveiled

Seiko Instruments has introduced a new chip that connects cellular phones, personal digital assistants, and pagers to the Internet. The iChip S7600 is the first Internet-ready IC, according to Seiko. The chip enables Web browsing, e-mail, and networking to be added to a variety of equipment. It runs at 256 kHz and consumes less than 3mW of power. Cost: $8 in quantities of 1,000.
