Chip tags fall

By Staff -- Purchasing, 6/17/1999

Average product prices for semiconductors and related devices (SIC 3674) fell 7% in the 12 months ending April 1999. Producers felt the full brunt of this price decline as per-unit manufacturing costs fell only 0.9%. Leading the price decline were microprocessors. Running a distant second was dram. Prices fell 2.3% in April and are 8.7% below where they were a year ago. Dice and wafers take third place by bending backward 1.7% in April. Transistors and hybrid integrated circuits were non-participants in the price dance as tags for both went unchanged.
